But then, I’m from the ’80s: I’ll always put a band’s politics before their music. It says something about the current music scene when Dave Matthews and Coldplay have spoken out about genocide while the vast majority of musicians stay silent.

And, actually, it reinforces how much I don’t give a shit about genres, all I care about is artistic intent and perspective.

From my scene, indiepop, that was a hugely political movement in the ’80s. But I see people copying the genre superficialities and totally leaving out the politics, the engine, the soul of the music.

You can’t be McCarthy just by using the same fucking pedals they did.
