This is one of those rare books that gripped me from first to last page. I tried to ration reading it because I didn’t want it to be over, didn’t want to leave the characters and the world(s) behind.
I’m being vague because I don’t want to even hint at plot or characters but I can say this is one of the best SF stories I’ve ever read. It has real, believable humans in it, not Mary Sues. It has gnarly, wonderful aliens in it that aren’t vague racist stereotypes with an unpronounceable name slapped on.
It is funny and sad and inspiring in that Vonnegut way and it stays with you.
Ashton has never written a bad book and now he’s raised the bar on himself yet again.
