Tumblr Revolutionaries

The problem with certain lefties is that they spend more time feuding with other left wingers than fighting actual Nazis / Tories / Republicans. They live fantasy lives, chasing an ideological purity which no actual human could ever attain and, being monolithic, is the actual antithesis of Marxism. They are inflexible and intransigent, refusing to work with others unless they pass some litmus test of worthiness that they, and only they, get to decide.

In fact, here’s a handy book Lenin wrote about it all in 1920:

And here it is for the great capitalist price of FREE!

And while I’m on a classics spree, let’s not forget my fave socialist quote:

“The world political situation as a whole is chiefly characterized by a historical crisis of the leadership of the proletariat.”

(Source: Leon Trotsky, The Transitional Program – The Death Agony of Capitalism and the Tasks of the Fourth International)

And by that, I’m not saying the future leadership of the revolution is on Tumblr, I’m saying that while the left is squabbling internally, the right is happily organising and staging attempted coups. It would be funny if they weren’t actual fucking Nazis.

Cyberpunk 2077 – A Review After Playing for 130+ Hours

Well, I finished it. It had a nice, elegiac ending.

It’s such a mixed game. For the graphic designers, I’d easily give them 11/10 as there’s so much work and love gone into every little detail of the game. It’s just sad a lot of it takes time to rez in or disappears in front of you, totally spoiling the immersion

The same with the sound design – there’s some lovely touches but they become lost in NPCs talking over an incoming phone call or eerily silent gunfights / running / vehicles.

This is a game that bothered to mocap a really fat bloke walking but then clunkily replicates that on screen so you have a synchronised team of fat blokes.

So much time and trouble over the minutiae of a game, far, far more than a lot of others but the actual bones (NPC AI, cop AI, rendering) are all broken and jutting out awkwardly, probably in a T-pose.

And if you’re a PS4 player… well, CP2077 is to Horizon Zero Dawn as Paul Blart: Mall Cop is to Serpico. The narrative is never more than kid level, YA would be a stretch as that implies more ambiguity and fewer archetypes/cliches.

tl;dr – damn, you could have been sooooo good, what a fucking missed opportunity…

Mole Cuts A Deal

“Alright, mate, I checked yer binner and there’s three pegs missing, looks like board weevils if yer ask me, get big ideas round here when the pantry hawks aren’t roosting. Soo, I’ve greased yer prenups and also de-lined yer Hardall’s orifice sooo… adding that all up… that’ll be… umm…. sixteen worms and 48 woodlice exactly. Let’s cut the mosat and make it sixteen flat, eh, seeing as yer a regular!”

Dr Monster’s Last Gasp

“But I still don’t understand, Dr Monster? Why would you want to touch this blue poison print, don’t do it! Don’t!”

“I’m sorry, dear but we Komodo are the peers of poison, if I ingest this huge blue patch, I may be able to internally synthesize an antidote to the tiny dose which is slowly killing you… I… I cannot lose you, Sophia. I… have… grown accustomed to your radiative warmth…”

“No, Dr Monster, noooo, we have weeks to search for another cure, don’t touch the patch, please don’t! You cannot die… you cannot!! I… I love you, dear Dr! I love you!”

“I… I love you too, dearest Sophia. You have the finest scientific mind I have ever had the privilege to encounter. I must preserve this for all of us, even if the attempt costs my life.”

WIth that, the good doctor broke free of Sophia’s frantic grip and planted his scaly hand directly on the blue poison patch. As the poison coursed into his system, he groaned in pain, a rictus of agony crossing that kind, leathery face that made Sophia’s heart skip every time she saw it.

“Oh, Doctor! Nooo!” Sophia clutched the Doctor to her bosom, all thoughts of propriety abandoned as she wished she had not wasted so many years hiding her passions. What had he done… oh, what could have been!

“I can feel your heart beating, Sophia… I am happy if this is the last sound I hear before crossing the Styx… I… I love you… remember that… always…”

Tears coursing down her face, Sophia kissed the Doctor on his snout as his eyes slowly closed…
