Ruby Sparks

So I watched ‘Ruby Sparks’ with my bff last night and we both loved it. I thought it was a harsher criticism of the masculine reductionist view of women than she did, possibly because she dislikes men less than I do. Also, there was a lot that I recognised and that made me uncomfortable as a man, obviously that’s not going to apply to her.

Unlike romcom fluff, this film is real. Which is ironic since it’s a fantasy. What does that say about Western culture and its pernicious norms of romance, love, sex and sexuality?

If you haven’t seen it yet, go and buy it. Zoe Kazan both wrote and stars in it and is most definitely a woman to watch.
