The death toll among Iraqis as a result of the US-led invasion has now reached an estimated 655,000, a study in the Lancet medical journal reports today.
The figure for the number of deaths attributable to the conflict – which amounts to around 2.5% of the population – is at odds with figures cited by the US and UK governments and will cause a storm, but the Lancet says the work, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, has been examined and validated by four separate independent experts who all urged publication.

655,000
655,000
Predictably, Bush and his neocon neo-Nazi allies have rubbished this report. Even though it’s been peer-reviewed by four experts. No, their opinion is invalid: the only opinion that matters is that of the masters of the slaughter. You might as well ask Hitler what’s going on in those shower cubicles he’s had built for his Jewish holiday camp residents.
Six-hundred and fifty-five thousand people have been murdered in Iraq as a direct result of the US invasion. But let’s not lay this all at the foot of Bush and the PNAC cabal. The illegal invasion could only have happened with the support of Great Britain and our own smiling murderer.
Yes, step forward Tony “Butcher” Blair.
As much as Bush has bathed in Iraqi blood, Blair has too. Remember all the lies he spouted? The WMDs, the “45 minutes from attack,” the bioweapons, the altered intelligence dossiers?
All of that lying is what dragged us into supporting this grand act of US brutality, this horror, this attack on the very idea of civilisation itself.
We are responsible. My taxes and yours, if you’re a UK or US citizen, helped pay to murder some of those 655,000 innocent people. And even though I marched and marched and marched against the whole insane crusade, that doesn’t negate the fact that my country has carried out a war crime.
And yet the Butcher is still in Number 10. He still smiles and lectures us on our wayward morality and the need to remove our human rights in order to fight “evil terrorists.” Even though he is personally responible for more deaths than Al Quaeda, the IRA and ETA added together. This is the looking-glass land we live in, where mass-murderers like Blair and Bush walk around free while mere dabblers like Saddam Hussein or Bin Laden are imprisoned or hunted down. Why do I call Hussein a dabbler? Look:
A total of 629 deaths were reported, of which 547 – or 87% – occurred after the invasion. The mortality rate before the war was 5.5 per 1,000, but since the invasion, it has risen to 13.3 per 1,000 per year, they say. Between June 2005 and June 2006, the mortality rate hit a high of 19.8 per 1,000.

Do you see? Under the petty murderer Hussein, the Iraqi mortality rate was less than half that under the glorious liberators from the West. If you’re an Iraqi, you’re more than twice as likely to be killed now as under Hussein. In the last year you were nearly four times more likely to be murdered than in the days when you were ruled by what the USA called a dictator. Given those figures, what does that say for the grand US liberation? If Hussein was an evil murderer, which he undoubtedly was, what does that make Bush and Blair?
But then, history and law are always controlled by those in power. They define who is evil and who is good, they re-write the law to suit their own power games. They sit above us all, glorying in slaughter whilst tut-tutting at speeding drivers or welfare mothers.
Tony Blair and George W. Bush are personally responsible for the murder of 665,000 Iraqis. They are war criminals. When will they be brought to justice and pay for their crimes against humanity?
