A SHARP increase in British and American bombing raids on Iraq in the run-up to war “to put pressure on the regime” was illegal under international law, according to leaked Foreign Office legal advice.
The advice was first provided to senior ministers in March 2002. Two months later RAF and USAF jets began “spikes of activity” designed to goad Saddam Hussein into retaliating and giving the allies a pretext for war.
The Foreign Office advice shows military action to pressurise the regime was “not consistent with” UN law, despite American claims that it was.
However, the leaked Foreign Office legal advice, which was also appended to the Cabinet Office briefing paper for the July meeting, made it clear allied aircraft were legally entitled to patrol the no-fly zones over the north and south of Iraq only to deter attacks by Saddam’s forces on the Kurdish and Shia populations.
The allies had no power to use military force to put pressure of any kind on the regime.

Why is Blair still in No.10?
Why do we still have a mass-murderer running this country, grinning and gurning, spouting shite about “respect” and “responsibility” while dripping with the blood of Iraqi children?
In Iraq, more people will die today as a direct result of the US and UK’s illegal invasion and devastation of the country. Napalm, cluster-bombs, torture and suicide bombers, those are our gifts to Iraq, not the freedom and democracy claimed by the neo-Nazis currently running the USA.
Every day more proof is revealed about how our governments lied to us, how they invented WMDs, bioweapons and any convenient prop to help their staged “liberation.”
None of it was true.
Look across the internet and you’ll find thousands of well-funded Republican and Neocon sites which seem to be from another universe. To these people, the invasion of Iraq was a wonderful, joyous moment. The war actually finished when Dubya delivered his Top Gun speech. Iraq is now a democracy, safe because of brave US troops. They’re actually proud of an illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation, an act previously carried out by Hitler with much the same justifications.
The 100,000 Iraq dead, the truckloads of severed childrens’ heads, the torture of innocent Iraqis – none of that exists for them.
Are we in Britain any better? No.
We just voted Butcher Blair back into office when he should be in prison, on trial for his war crimes. I hope in my lifetime that I see Blair answer in court for his crimes against the Iraqi people, he is as guilty of mass-murder as Saddam Hussein.
And George W. Bush.
